As far as I am concerned, it is summertime right now. That also means I am constantly happy, every single day, as opposed to just a few weeks ago, when I was extremely unhappy, every single day.
Why am I happy now, as opposed to a few weeks ago? It is summertime – at least the weather says so.
Last week, while I was zipping along the coast with my music turned up very loud, it suddenly hit me – it is Friday and it is time for a drink! Of course, it was not a Friday. I think it was a Monday or Tuesday.
(Yes, that last paragraph has little to do with the rest of this blog post. As usual, I like to add random thoughts that do not make sense in the scheme of things.)
Two blog posts ago, I mentioned I would try to get back into Pilates. I did. I have been getting in my A.M Pilates workout every morning rather religiously. You will also be happy to know I have managed to drag Child of the Corn I to P.M Pilates at the gym. She is not too thrilled about that but hey, do you see care and concern in my eyes?
Last Thursday, I found out that they also have swimming lessons in the evening every Monday and Tuesday. Again, Child of the Corn I (who has managed to not learn how to swim all these years) is not too thrilled when I informed her that she will be getting swimming lessons regardless whether she wants to or not. I am sick to death of having to defend myself to others when they gasp, “She does not know how to swim?” I mean, come on. I learnt how to swim when I was 7 years old. I begged my mother to let me learn how to swim. Child of the Corn II is the perfect child by far – she is enthusiastic about everything as long as she does not have to clean her room or put away her shoes or clothes.
Child of the Corn I has always been a slender child. We had great difficulties in finding clothes for her because we discovered that garments come in “husky” and “slim” in the children section. I am going to guess that “husky” is the less derogatory term of “fat kids.”
In the past year, however, I discovered that while she can wear my clothes, jeans, her hips are getting a bit too large, and they are getting larger. That means my jeans stretched after she wears them once. I do not like that one bit.
As the norm, things happen in my household because I am bored and I decide to do something to kill my boredom. This time around, I hope I managed to at least start a spark as far as physical inactivity is concerned. Well, to end physical inactivity, to be precise.
Two weeks ago, H suddenly said, “I need to start running when I come home tomorrow.” I immediately replied, “YES, you do!” Of course, as you can guess, H turned and gave me a funny look. I smiled at him and said, “I meant, yes, it is a good idea. When was the last time you ran…?” He just shook his head and continued watching television. The next day, he walked in from work, went straight to the bedroom and changed into his shorts and tee shirt. Funny thing was, he did not know where his running shoes were. Okay, maybe not funny but anyway, I told him to look under the bed and like magic, the shoes appeared.
He left the house with Child of the Corn II in tow – Child of the Corn I was in the bathroom getting a shower. The next day, Child of the Corn II rode her bike while H ran. I managed to drag Child of the Corn I out of her bedroom so she could join them. This went on for another day and then a setback – H was standing by the sink doing dishes and his ankle started to hurt him. So that running plan is now on hold but he is still bothered by the fact that he is beginning to look like our fat neighbours but there is hope yet. My enthusiasm about the gym that is 18.3 miles away (yes, one-way) is rather infectious, if I may say so myself.
Therefore, tomorrow evening, instead of sitting down to dinner at 6 P.M, we will be in the car, heading out to the gym. I am debating getting my hair wet in public once again. Who knows, maybe I will pull out my swimsuit out of the boot of my car and jump in the pool with CoTC before doing my P.M Pilates while H is on the treadmill.
Now, I think I should go get that shuteye. I am beginning to hear my BlackBerry vibrating on my nightstand. (No, it is not vibrating, it is my imagination run amok)
SuriaMentari notes to self: everything gets easier when there are others doing the same thing you are…
Summer is great! Enjoy the summer!
Can we get an update on how all of this is going? It sounds great. I got to play tennis two weeks in a row under a morning sun and it felt perfect–even the soreness days after!
